SALEM, Ohio — The Ohio Jersey Breeders’ Association will hold their annual summer picnic at Nature View Farm on July 19, beginning at noon. Owned by Jay and Paul Herron, the farm is located at 33372 Hoopes Road, Salem.

Their herd consists of 230 cows and 230 heifers; 90 percent of them are polled and are ranked 8th for herds 150 to 299 cows with an ME average of 21,753M 1085F 790P on 154 cows.

Guests will have the opportunity to tour the Herrons’ new facilities including a 40-cow rotary parlor, 300-cow sand-bedded free-stall barn, with flush system and 300-foot sand lane that recovers almost 100 percent of the sand. Solids are separated via a weeping wall into two settling ponds; flush water is recycled into a 1.5 million gallon holding tank, with a 40 HP pump to enable the direct flush system without an additional tank.

For the picnic, meat, buns and beverages will be provided; please bring side dishes to share and table service.
