RONKS, Pa. – The American Guernsey Association (AGA) will host its third edition of the Autumn Opportunity Sale here at Fisher’s Quality Dairy Sales, 3304 Old Philadelphia Pike, Ronks, Lancaster County, Pa. The date is October 31; starting at 11 a.m.

AGA President Vickie Baker notes that this is the first sale in several years, and it took into consideration requests for Guernseys that have been coming into the Association.  “There will be something for everyone, and we’ve stayed true to production-based goals,” she said.

Baker reports that 50 females will be offered about evenly split between milking cows and bred heifers due from sale time through spring. In response to requests, three young bulls will also be offered, ready to go to work in the next couple of months.

“We will have consignments from some of the top herds for production and type, with 95% confirmed A2A2 and the other 5% not tested,” says Baker. “This includes consignments out of key cow families from the Hoards’ herd for production. We will have descendents of Japan, Uno and Malt, as well as selections of cattle with grazing herd genetics. Many of the offerings are bred to sexed semen.”

“The inaugural Autumn Opportunity Sale was in 2020 at Fisher’s,” Baker reflected. “In 2021, it was moved to Wooster, Ohio. Because of the demand that we see for production Guernseys from this area in southeast Pennsylvania, we wanted to have this sale again and do it here to give these dairies the option to come pick how many and which cows they may need this fall and make their choices.”

Baker also noted that the sale at Fisher’s will also be online through CowBuyer. AGA also has an online embryo and semen auction closing Oct. 30 on Cowbuyer.
