TROY, Pa. — The Bradford County Holstein Association’s Board of directors has honored Al and Sharon Calkins of Troy with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The presentation took place at the Association’s annual meeting and banquet on Nov. 22nd at Alparon Park in Troy. The entire family was in attendance to receive a blanket embroidered with their farm name, a gift box of food and the book 100 Years of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association.

John Baker, area representative for smaXtec, gave a presentation on management advantages a farmer gets with smaXtec bolus technology. Bolus technology provides early detection of inflammatory and metabolic diseases, heat detection, calving detection, monitoring of water intakes, etc.  A promotional video was shown and then time was provided for questions. The costs involved with this cow management system was shared.

Eric Kenyon, president, gave a report on 2025’s successful Bradford County Calf and Heifer Sale and announced that next year’s Sale will be held on April 18th.

PHA Executive Director Dave Lentz reviewed the redrawing of state district lines that took place this year — there are now only three — and the success of the “Know What You Buy” sales series. He also noted that the 2026 Spring Show will be held at the Juniata County Fairgrounds in Port Royal.

Three new directors were elected to the Board for 3-year terms, namely Jeremy Route, Kendal Jenkins and Wesley Noble.
