WEST FRIENDSHIP, Md. — A perfect Spring day on April 18 brought out 147 head for the Maryland Holstein Association’s Spring Show held at the Howard County Fairgrounds. Judge Anthony Liddle of Argyle, N.Y., sorted through the classes, and chose Knob-View D-Lambda Kansas as senior and grand champion of both the open and Junior shows. She was the winning 5-year-old owned by Carly Nowell and also took home the title of best bred and owned cow of the show.

In the open division, the top younger cows followed in champion selection. Reserve grand champion honors went to the intermediate champion, a senior 2-year-old, MS Have No Fear Bet-ET, exhibited by Kueffner and Packard of La Casa De Leche LLC. The reserve intermediate champion and first place senior 3-year-old, Peace & Plenty SKICK Rachael exhibited by Austin Schwartzbeck, got the nod as honorable mention grand champion.

The 5-year-old class also produced the reserve senior champion of both shows and reserve grand champion in the Junior division: Peac & Plenty SK Jubie37-ET, exhibited by Briston Ehrhardt. Honorable mention grand champion in the Junior show went to the intermediate champion, Arb-Flo-Spr Mo Makmarie-ET, a senior 3-year-old owned by Korie Black. Andie Welsh had the reserve intermediate champion of the Junior show with her junior 2-year-old, Savage-Leigh Dropbox Danica.

Red & Whites also had a strong showing on the day. Judge Liddle selected Pheasant Echos Wrangler-Red as senior and grand champion of the open show. She was the winning aged cow exhibited by Byron Stambaugh. Reserve senior and grand champion in the open show and senior and grand champion in the Junior division was Emma Hutchison’s junior 3-year-old, Oakland-View Doral 9490-Red. Mikayla Derr had the reserve senior and grand champion in the Junior show with her senior 2-year-old, MS Rompen Mistic-Red-ET.

A strong heifer show of 105 head was topped by Diamond-VL Pretty Please-ET, the winning spring yearling exhibited by Chris and Jennifer Hill and Nate Oleniacz. Following her in the class and as reserve junior champion was Golden-Oaks Amina-Red-ET, owned by Chip Savage and Peter Vail. Amina also took home the banner for junior champion in the Red & White show, where Pheasant Echos S Daphne-Red, a fall calf owned by Trinity Miller, was reserve.

In the Junior division, the junior champions came from the largest class of the day. Peace & Plenty EC Jubsexy-ET exhibited by Colby Wetzel stood at the top among all 30 summer yearlings before earning her title as well as honorable mention junior champion in the open show. The reserve junior champion of the Junior show was Oaklyn Christman’s Ra-Rob Jinx Laffy Taffy, who placed second in the summer yearling class. The top Junior-owned Red & White heifer was Raelyn Stambaugh’s fall calf, Pheasant Echos Tilen-Red-ET, while the reserve ribbon went to Arb-Flo-Spr Awsom Torin-Red, a winter calf exhibited by Kinsley Shawver.

Pheasant Echo’s Farm of Westminster earned the Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor banners of the day.
