STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Holstein Association and Cessna Brothers Farm – the Cessna family — are planning a statewide picnic and sale on Friday, July 3. The “Bash in Beans Cove” will be hosted by “Buck” Cessna and his family at their home, 3099 Beans Cove Road, Clearville, Bedford County. Lunch will start at 11:30 with the sale following at 12:30. A preview of sale animals will be available on Thursday evening. “This will be an opportunity for members to socialize with fellow Holstein breeders, visit with old and new friends, and provide them the opportunity to purchase top-shelf Holstein genetics,” said David Lentz, PHA executive director.
The Cessnas have bred and/or developed more than one hundred Excellent cows under the C-Cove prefix and have bred and developed over 30 All-Pennsylvania award winners, three All-American nominated individuals, one Junior All-American nomination, and one Red & White AA nomination.
C-Cove Holsteins is just one enterprise that the Cessna Family operates. They also run cow/calf and finishing beef operations, a large sawmill, horse stables, and farm 400 acres in three states.
There is a hotel block at the Sleep Inn in Cumberland for Thursday (7/2) and Friday (7/3) night. The hotel is 20 minutes from C-Cove and room rates are $105/night. Reservations can be made at 240-580-1333.
Tickets for the picnic are $7 per person; the ticket order deadline is Friday, June 19. Tickets are available online at www.paholsteins.com.
