HARRISBURG, Pa. — Dairy farmers spent more than a decade fighting to restore whole milk choice in schools. Now that whole and 2% flavored and unflavored milk are allowed for ALL school meals, the question is: How do we help Pennsylvania schools make these options available to kids?

That’s the focus of Senate Bill 1362, sponsored by Sen. David Argall (R-29th), to establish a voluntary Pennsylvania School Whole Milk Equipment Pilot Program. Six senators have joined Argall as co-sponsors: Sens. Doug Mastriano, Lynda Schlegel Culver, Michele Brooks, Gene Yaw, Scott Hutchinson and Judy Ward.

Now, more co-sponsors are needed to help move the bill forward. We also need help with the Pa. Senate Ag Committee leadership to move the bill out of committee.

The Pennsylvania Whole Milk in Schools Task Force worked to build a Coalition letter. Readers are urged to contact their State Senator and share the letter and ask him or her to co-sponsor SB 1362.

Clip out the Coalition Letter printed on pages 16 and 17 of this edition of Farmshine and mail it with a personal note.

Or email your State Senator at their website ‘contact’ portal with a brief note of support and share this link to the letter: https://qrco.de/SB1362-letter

If you are not sure who your State Senator is, find out here: https://www.palegis.us/find-my-legislator

Please make the contact. Ask not just for support but also consideration of co-sponsorship for SB 1362. Every voice helps move it forward.
