MUNCY, Pa. — The Eastern Breeders Sale marked its 90th anniversary on Saturday, October 24 at the Fraley Auction Dairy Complex in Muncy. A large crowd filled the barn and sale arena and stayed active from the first lot to the last, while steady online bidding through CowBuyer kept the competition strong throughout the day.
When the gavel fell for the final time, 93 lots averaged $3528.80, with 30 head in the offering less than 12 months of age. Buyers took cattle home to 18 states and Canada, with many new names appearing on the buyers list, showing a growing interest in quality Brown Swiss.
The high seller of the day at $18,500 was Lot 54, Top Acres N Wannashine (2E-91). The last live animal to sell from Connie Sliker, Top Acres, St. Paris, Ohio, she is a daughter of Top Acres Supreme Wizard-ET (3E-95), an All-American and World Dairy Expo grand champion. Wannashine sold dry and due to calve December 1. After active bidding from both the crowd and CowBuyer, Don Graft of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is her new owner.
The second high seller was Lot 11, Perry Brook Play Spades ETV, at $11,000. Consigned by Kylie Chittenden of Whiting, Vermont, this January 2026 Playmaker granddaughter of the crowd favorite VB Phantom Sinister (2E-94), All-American 4-Year-Old and first-place 5-year-old at World Dairy Expo 2026, offered an appealing combination of good type, genetic index and show ring success. Boasting +140 PPR and 1.25 UDC, Spades appealed to a broad range of bidders. Jack Moore of Honeoye Falls, New York, outlasted a determined field of bidders to take her home.
Adam Fraley served as auctioneer, with Brian Garrison providing pedigree announcements and updates. Bryan Champluvier and Larry Hill worked the ring, taking bids from the crowd and on the phone, while Erica Davis handled online bidding via CowBuyer. Virginia Fraley and Gina Fraley handled clerking duties, while Kathi Brown Meier coordinated registrations, transfers, sale updates, and pre- and post-sale follow-up.
Tyler Endres headed up a talented barn crew of Heather Yoder, Hannah Balthaser, Carissa Pitman, Brock Champluvier, Michael Bosley, Cole Nickerson and Suton Paulson. The crew cared for and prepared the cattle throughout the week and had every consignment looking its best on sale day. The cattle were presented in the sale ring by Landree Fraley, Avery Fogal, Tenley Chittenden and Avery Hutton.
Ninety years in, the Eastern Breeders Sale remains the marketplace for quality Brown Swiss. Sincere thanks go to the consignors, buyers, bidders, sale staff and barn crew whose support and hard work made the 90th anniversary sale a success.
