MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — Graduate students from SUNY Morrisville are seeking input from women in agriculture across the United States through a new survey.  The goal is to better understand the pivotal moments, professional development opportunities, and persistent challenges women encounter on their journeys to leadership roles in the industry.

This survey is part of a graduate research initiative aligned with the upcoming 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer. Its findings aim to collect data that can shape more inclusive and effective leadership development programs within agriculture.

Participants will have the opportunity to share real-world experiences that can inform future policies, educational efforts, and leadership initiatives tailored to support women in agriculture.

Inspired by the work of Erika Louder and her thesis on women’s leadership, the survey builds on validated research questions and incorporates insights gained from SUNY Morrisville’s collaboration with national leaders, including the co-founders of Annie’s Project.

Survey topics include:

• Turning points that motivate women to pursue leadership

• Access to technical training, mentorship, and networking opportunities

• Barriers such as time limitations, lack of inclusion, or self-doubt

• The role of continued education and peer support in building confidence and leadership readiness

The anonymous survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete. Participants may choose to share their email at the end if they’d like to receive a summary of results or be part of a follow-up conversation.

The survey will remain open through July 2, 2025

Findings from the study will be shared publicly to support ongoing program development, especially within agricultural education, extension programs, commodity groups and non-profits serving rural women.
