June Class I advance kicks off new FMMO rules… with a twist
The advance Class I base price for June was published by USDA AMS on Wed., May 21 at $17.26. This is $1.11 lower than May’s Class I base price, and $1.20 lower than a year ago. The Class I base price is an index price based on 3.5% butterfat. Actual Class I payment and pool obligations on the fat side are paid per pound using the advance butterfat pricing factor for actual butterfat pounds used in Class I products, whereas the skim portion is based on standardized skim solids per hundredweight. Those standardized values for skim solids will be updated in Dec. 2025 — six months after the other Federal Milk Marketing Order (FMMO) pricing formula changes are implemented for June milk marketings.
